Since forming, the UTLO has fought and won more than 60 successful cases. But one case deserves to be mentioned as we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and we remember those who still suffer the tragic events of September 11, 2001. About a year ago, a UTLO member requested assistance to claim the 9/11 Disability Retirement. And after a year of fighting, your UTLO is proud to say that our union brother has been granted 9/11 First Responder status from NYCERS and 9/11 ongoing sick leave status per recent amendment to the General Municipal Law. This means this UTLO member is now receiving full 9/11 Disability Retirement and had nearly a hundred hours of sick leave restored.
This is why we organized. This is the type of focus and determination it takes for us to fix issues like pay parity and other compensation issues, health care, and an overall improved contract. The UTLO plans to continue maintaining this momentum to fight and win for all UTLO members during collective bargaining. We are chomping at the bit and constantly demanding our time at the negotiations table.
